Warm intros are a distribution channel you either have or you don't. The list of funds whose thesis fits is public, finite, and reachable the way any market is.
The field
Every fund is a company with a stated thesis and a stage it writes at. Three filters cut the field down to the ones with an actual reason to hear about this raise, and the ones that clear all three land as slots on a calendar, not names on a list.
How the run works
Every fund with a public thesis belongs to a market like any other: finite, researchable, buildable into one list the way any ICP gets built. Partner names, stage, sector focus, attached to the record before a single email goes out.
A fund that has never written at this stage or in this sector is not on the list, however well-known the name. Thesis fit and stage fit come first — the two filters that decide whether a fund belongs in the field at all.
The same research that earns a reply from a buyer earns one from a partner: what the fund says its thesis is, what it has actually backed, and why this raise sits inside that.
Touches land in an order and at a pace a person would actually follow up — not the whole list contacted on day one. A raise burns a list exactly like any other outbound run does, and a list burned mid-raise cannot be re-approached later.
A partner who replies during a raise is on a clock the founder does not otherwise control. The reply agent holds that thirty-minute floor whatever the founder is doing, with every send still passing a human before it goes out.
Why cold works here
A partner’s job is opening messages from founders they have never met and deciding, in a paragraph, whether to keep reading. The bar was never a warm introduction. It was whether the reason is real, which is exactly what the research behind every send exists to carry.
A raise runs against a deadline a warm-intro network was never built to respect. Coverage of the funds whose thesis and stage actually fit beats depth in the handful of partners any one founder happens to know, and the same signals that watch a market for a reason to write can watch fund activity too — a new fund announced, a filing — for timing that isn’t a guess.
