What does this email deliverability test actually check?
Four DNS record sets: your SPF record (existence, the 10-lookup limit, and how it ends), DKIM keys across 19 common selectors (including Google's rotating date-style ones), your DMARC policy (p=, reporting, percentages, subdomain policy), and MX records. Each check returns pass, warn or fail verdicts with the reason stated.
Can a test like this measure inbox placement?
No, and be suspicious of any instant test that claims to. Inbox placement depends on sending reputation, volume history, engagement and content, none of which live in DNS. Records are the entry ticket; reputation is the game. We say this plainly because we build sending reputation for a living.
Why do SPF, DKIM and DMARC matter for cold email?
Since 2024, Google and Yahoo require authentication for bulk senders: mail that fails BOTH SPF and DKIM alignment under a DMARC policy is rejected or junked before a human ever sees it — one aligned pass keeps it alive, which is why you run both. Perfect copy on a misconfigured domain is invisible copy.
What should a correctly configured domain look like?
One SPF record ending in -all with fewer than 10 DNS lookups, a DKIM key of 2048 bits, and a DMARC record at p=quarantine or p=reject with rua reporting on. That exact combination is what this test scores 90+.
